Mentor Program
TABA strives to support Future Aggie Lawyers in various capacities. Through our Mentorship Program, 2L & 3L students are matched with TABA attorneys that provide an ongoing relationship in order to support them as students and professionals. All participants must be active TABA members.

Mentor Expectations:
- Enthusiasm about building a relationship with a mentee!
- Ongoing communication with mentee, minimally one communication per month (Communication can be by text, call, or in person. The goal is to at least touch base and open the door for any concerns/needs. Ideas: coffee, firm visit, meal, email)
- Willingness to introduce mentee to other lawyers and resources.
- Willingness to respond to inquiries by mentees within 5 business days.
Mentor Guidelines:
- Be supportive and encouraging. Your mentee is looking to you for guidance and support, so it's important to be positive and constructive. Let them know that you believe in them and that you are there to help them succeed.
- Be committed. Dedicate yourself to being a mentor in this program for at least one year.
- Be honest and constructive with your feedback. It's important to be honest with your mentee about their strengths and weaknesses, but it's also important to be constructive in your feedback. Offer specific advice and suggestions on how they can improve.
- Be available: Ensure regular communication with your mentee through meetings, emails, or phone calls.
- Celebrate your mentee's successes. When your mentee achieves a goal, be sure to celebrate their success with them. This will help them to stay motivated and on track.
- Maintain a professional relationship and your mentee's confidentiality. All conversations between mentors and mentees should be kept confidential unless otherwise agreed upon.
Mentee Guidelines:
- Currently enrolled in your 2L or 3L year of law school.
- Be proactive and reach out to your mentor regularly. Don't wait for your mentor to reach out to you. Take the initiative to schedule regular meetings and check-ins. This will help you to stay on track and get the most out of your mentorship.
- Be clear about your goals and expectations. Let your mentor know what you hope to achieve through the mentorship. Be specific about your goals and expectations.
- Be open to feedback and advice. Your mentor is there to help you grow and develop. Be open to their feedback and suggestions, even if they are challenging.
- Be respectful of your mentor's time and commitments. Your mentor is a busy professional, so it's important to be respectful of their time and commitments.
- Thank your mentor for their support. Let your mentor know how much you appreciate their support and guidance. This will help to strengthen your relationship and make the mentorship more rewarding for both of you.
- Maintain a professional relationship and your mentor's confidentiality. All conversations between mentors and mentees should be kept confidential unless otherwise agreed upon.
